3 Days Akagera National Park Park

3 Days Akagera National Park Park : One of the best game drive experiences in East Africa is provided by our 3-Day Akagera Safari tour, which takes you to one of Rwanda’s most well-known wildlife protection areas. On the eastern part of Rwanda, close to the Tanzanian border, is where you’ll find Akagera National Park. It occupies a space of around 433 square miles. The sole Savannah park in Rwanda was established in 1934 and is named Akagera. The Kagera River, which nourishes Lake Ihema and other waterbodies in the park before discharging the majority of its load in Lake Victoria, is the source of the park’s name. The enormous papyrus swamps, forests, Savannah, undulating plains, and water bodies make up Akagera National Park. All five of the big five mammals—lions, buffaloes, elephants, leopards, and rhinoceroses—can be found in Akagera. It also has giraffes, warthogs, hippos, zebras, and many types of antelope.

Sadly, the 1994 genocide in Rwanda resulted in the loss of much of the park’s fauna. After the war, thousands of displaced individuals encroached on park territory and hunted the animals for sustenance or to get rid of them. Predators in Akagera National Park. Farmers who viewed the park’s 300 lions as a threat to their domestic animals murdered them all. One of Africa’s greatest wild dog populations once lived in Akagera.

They were largely eliminated by the Belgian authorities, which viewed them as pests. Rwanda had no wild dogs left by 1984. Many other species also had tragic finishes, but the new Rwandan administration is adamant about bringing the park back to its former splendor and making it a premier safari destination.

The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and the African Park Networks (APN) have a 20-year agreement in place to jointly manage the park. Additionally, the park’s security was bolstered, lodges were constructed, and both domestically and internationally, tourism was heavily promoted. The majority of the animals have been reintroduced into the park, and their populations have slowly increased over the years to the point that travelers now view Rwanda as an accessible safari destination to see Africa’s renowned mammals.
